Monolith
Monolith, an engine-building game about software startups Hey HN, I'm sharing a game I've been building for the last few months. You run a tech company, starting with a few engineers and a Monolith. Requirements earn revenue, revenue unlocks funding, and funding hires more engineers. Let tech debt pile up or morale slide, and your engineers get less done, or quit. Once someone IPOs, a clock starts and the highest valuation wins. Or you can win the AI Race. I've been an engineer in tech for a long time. I was aiming for something that allowed me to visually represent a software stack like you see or build at modern tech companies. I also wanted something tongue-in-cheek about the silly things we say (YAGNI, KISS) and the shitty things that happen at companies (layoffs, audits), but deep enough for real strategy. Inspired by some of my faves: Lichess, MTG, Twilight Struggle, Slay the Spire, Balatro. You can play a tutorial, a bot, pass-and-play, or the online arena: ranked matches or private rooms with friends. You can also create an account and connect agents which play in their own lane over MCP. Pipe dream: Monolith becomes a new benchmark for AI releases. Tech stack: TypeScript/Node (for now; rust rewrite of the engine is on the table...). Matches stream over server-sent events, and the same rules engine runs the server and the bots. Feedback is much appreciated, here or via Report a bug in the menu. I'm especially curious whether the first few turns make sense.
